Hi all;

I have been off work since I was injured on the job in August of 2001.

I have been trying to stay current with the IT industry but it is not an
easy thing to do.

I have learned that my treatment was not solving my back injury, so I will
be under going

some major surgery on my spine in about 60 days. Replacing a disk or two and
fusing a

couple of vertebrae. Who said pulling CAT5 cable can't hurt? J

The doctor has told me that after the surgery I will be recuperating for at
least 12 months. Then

we can talk about going back to work. The college District that I worked for
has let me go.

Before the injury I was the Network Manager for a Community College. I was
responsible for

the IT Dept. (5 Campuses, 2 Network Administrators, 3 Network Technicians, 6
Computer Lab

Assistants, A $100,000+ budget) See my resume at http://craignet.com

Now I get $490 a week to house and feed my family. Ouch!

I do not have a degree or an MCSE. I did get a Novell CAN on Netware 3.12. I
had worked my

way up the ladder, and now the ladder is gone.

During the next year Should I.

Study and test for the MCSE?

Study and test for the CCNA?

Take online college classes toward an AS degree?

Any or all of the above?

Then, after the repairs on me are done, what would be the best way to find a
position?

We have lived in the California High Desert for 20 years, but we are willing
to move. Just

not into a Big City.

I am trying to keep a good out look on things, but knowing what is coming
these next 14

months it's not easy. But I will get through it thanks to the best wife in
the world and a teenage

son that does not act like a teenage son.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks! (Sorry to be so long, but it helps to vent some times.)
