| First of all thanks for your constan help and thanks in advance for your
answers.
I'm setting up Active Directory. Following the Window2000 Server Microsoft
Press book, I need to manually configure the IP address of my server. Doing
this I automatically cut out my Linksys Router, which leaves me without
network connection and without Internet connection. Am I missing something?

| You need to configure your server with a tcp/ip address that is in
the same network as your Linksys router. Use a host address that is either
outside the range that the Linksys uses for dhcp or disable dhcp on the
Linksys. The Linksys usually use a network address of 192.168.1.xxx. Use
something like 192.168.1.10 if that does not conflict with the Linksys dhcp
lease range. Use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a default gateway of
probably 192.168.1.1 which would be the lan side of the Linksys router.
Since you are configuring Active Directory you must configure your W2K
server to point to itself as its' preferred dns server using whatever tcp/ip
address that you assign to your W2K server. Once you have dns up and running
you need to use the dns management console and select properties to enable
and use forwarders. You need to enter the tcp/ip address of your ISP dns
server as the forwarder there. If the option to add forwarders is greyed
out that means that you have a root " . " zone in your forward zones. Delete
the root . zone and you should be able to enable and add forwarder. You may
have to restart the dns service if the option to add does not become
available right away. Do a reboot for good measure and that should put you
ready to access the internet. --- Steve
