| Hi,
I would really appreciate anyones advise please. I am in the UK and really
thinking seriously about doing the MCSE course. My concerns basically are
whether ill be up to the task of the course. I have no gauge of what
computer basis i need going tinto it really. I consider myself competent on
PC's now but i may be way off the mark in terms of what is required. For
example i dont know all the 'computer speak' and dont know the insides of
the operating systems. I love working on PC's and would love to have a
career in IT. The course costs so much that i want to be sure when i do it
im going to be able to complete it.
Any advice is greatly appreciated
Many thanks
Regards

| Dont bother enrolling in those expensive courses I was like you and I studid
myself on my own and build 3 comps , Setup a small LAN lab...and bought MS
press ot any good study guides to prepare for MCSE and learnt them by
practising on my lab over and over I was competent in 3 monthes from almost
zero% NT based OS...and finallt got my MCSE without brain dumps..so there
you its upto you...if you got less money than dont bother expensive learning
do it my way....
But if you got money to spend go for those expensive trainings that gurantee
you pass MCSE in few weeks LOL....I dunno see how that work..
Good Luck

| The expensive courses are usually just cheat centres. How do you think they
can guarantee you pass in 8 weeks. Best thing to do is set up your own
network and start studying from home. I would recommend Comptia'a A+ and
Network+ as starter courses, (thats the route I went).
It took me 18months to get my MCSE and it was very very hard.
Also consider doing the MCSA course instead of the MCSE. I think its 4 exams
and the A+ can be used towards one of them.

| I signed on to do an MCSE with a company and paid loads of money for it. I
don't regret my decision to do a MCSE, but with hindsight I would have just
bought the books and studied by myself.(which is what I pretty much do
anyway only I've paid a lot more money for it). Get a book for the first
exam (e.g MS Press - 70-210) and work through the book. If you find the
book a little difficult, keep reading as some things explain themselves
later on in the book. Read the book a couple of times if necessary to fully
understand everything. Before taking 70-210 you may be best studying 70-215
also. If you still find the course is not making much sense there are other
books and courses that will get you up to speed. I would also recommend
that you buy a book on TCP/IP and read up on it. Also, make yourself
familiar with basic networking concepts.

Use the internet and do additional research where possible.
