| Hi,
i am using a dual boot system on with WinME and Win2K. Whenever i try and
boot to win2k it starts fine, loads all the way, just as it is finishing
booting it reboots the computer for no reason.
I can''t access the boot log as i can't boot to Win2k?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried the safe-mode boot or logged-boot by pressing the F8 key upon
startup?

| Sounds like a hardware problem or disk corruption which is related to a
hardware problem.
Was Win2k working fine previously? The WinNT family is much more
sensitive to faulty hardware and is a good indication unlike Win9x, DOS and
other
command-line OSes.
Things to try:
1. Reboot using the mode where it lists the files as it is loaded (not sure
if its Safe mode).
Take note of the last file loaded before the computer restarts itself.
Replace that file from another source (Win2k CD or another computer using
floppy/CD) using the
Recovery Console.
2. If you still can't boot, put the disk into another Win2k machine and do a
"chkdsk <drive>: /f /r" on it.
Avoid this step if this disk is a domain controller unless you know what u
are doing.
(I've seen serious file replication consequences).
3. Did you overclock the computer? Hope not. Any recent aggressive changes
to the BIOS settings?
Remove unnecessary and swap out components for known working ones,
particularly the RAM and video card. Unplug power and ide cables for
unnecessary removable
and non-removable disks.
4. Install Win2k on top of itself.
Good luck.

Try pointing a fan in the computer's and CPU's direction to cool it
off .. could be overheating. Also, measure the humidity.

| Have you recently added or removed any software from the W2k partition? Was
W2k installed as a new OS or was it upgraded from a previous OS? Do you have
anything on the W2k partition other than your OS? I had a similar problem
after attempting to remove some software that was causing problems, and I
couldn't even get the machine to boot in safe-mode, so I finally just bit
the bullet and reformatted and loaded a clean version of W2k (I had
previously upgraded from W98). Now my machine runs better than it ever has.
Bottom line, sometimes it is faster and less aggravating to reformat and
reload than it is to try to figure out the problem. It is a hard decision to
make, but once it is made you may be happier that you did it that way than
trying to figure it out the "right way".

| Safe Mode. Once in under safe mode check the event logs for any failing
parts of the system.
Have you added any new devices? If so use Safe Mode to uninstall the
drivers/get updated w2k drivers from mfr website.

| ....yeah, also in safe mode shut off the "automatically restart" option
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery "Settings" ->
uncheck "Automatically restart" in the System failure section

| Hi,
furher to this i have some new details.
I stopped the auto reboot on failure, to find the following error message
occuring
STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Unexpected_kernel_mode_trap
i have looked this up on the MS Knowledge base and it says that it could be
due to faulty hardaware. So, does anyone know of the best way for me to test
my RAM without having to replace it?
If so, please help.

| Sounds like a power supply issue. That is a memory error but it could
occur from a hot cpu. Got a big enough fan and sink?
