Author differenced between 70-210 and 70--215

Good afternoon folks,

Im going to start the MCSA next week.

What are the differences between 70-210 install, etc 2k pro, and 70-215
install configure, etc, 2k server.

I understand that they are 2 different OS but they are so similar, how
different can the exams be?

70-215 Covers more of the Server Services, IE DHCP, DNS, etc... this is also
covered in more depth in the 70-216 exam and then active directory with
GPO's in the 70-217 Exam.

I found that the 70-210 exam was more of end user problems ie, changing
resolution and things of that nature, where as the 70-215 exam had a lot to
do with RAS, DNS, and DHCP.

Quite a bit different. Familiarize yourself with the information you'll
need to know for each exam by going to http://www.microsoft.com/traincert
and looking at the objectives for each exam. I think you'll see some pretty
significant differences.

Ah, Philip, you're always such a ray of sunshine when you visit this
group!

It's a legit question, as there is a great deal of overlap, especially
in install procedures, even if the focus of the exam is server, not
desktop functions.

I don't think so chap.
the exams are installing, configuring and maintaining win2k pro and win2k
server.

the installation process is virtually identical
most of the services are similar
both os have mostly the same utilities.

since both os have so many similarities, I was wondering how different the
exams were.

There's a vast difference between stupid and ignorant. You're likely
smart enough to learn what you need to know, and hopefully smart enough
to realize what you don't know.

Nope. Most of the services are NOT similar. Running W2K Server
includes maintaining Active Directory, group policy, and a heck of a lot
more security than Professional, as well as servers for DNS, DHCP, and
basic operation of Internet client servers (i.e. IIS and all its
components). That's just off the top of my head -- there are far more
major differences, too.

I have advanced server installed.

I was talking about the basic services such as application manager, com+,
ftp publishing service, iis admin service, indexing service, plug and play,
print spooler..
not dns, dhcp and active dir.

What I suggest to my students is to book the exam within a week, the
material is similar, one will explore the disibility etc.. the other network
services but they are similar, and the studying material is almost the same.
