Ive Passed 70-216 and all other Core exams - Now what do I chose?
|

| Ive just passed the 70-216 exam and i didn't think it wasn't too bad, ashame
I couldn't see my score, but oh well! There was LOADS and I mean LOADS of
questions on WINS and DHCP. Barely mentioned DNS!!!
What I would like to know is where should I got from here, which security
exam should I take, should I take the 20-218 to get my MCSA (how easy is
this exam?).
Thanks,
Andy

| isn't that funny, not to focus on the primary resolution service which 2000
relies? i guess they were considering interoperability, go figure. ease of
an exam depends on your knowledge of the subject in which you are being
tested.

| I think the change the exam frequently or maybe they are slightly adaptive
so each person gets a different set of questions.
I have noticed comments on content for particular exams and the content
seemed different to me.
I had lots of DNS questions on the 216.
There are also many DNS questions on the 217.

| Yeah, I remember quite a bit of DNS stuff on 217 when I took it three months
ago.
I just took 218 a week ago and got my MCSA. You might as well. It counts
toward MCSE and gets you your MCSA right out of the gate and then (like me)
you're two tests away from MCSE. It wasn't hard. It was a hybrid of the
core exams I'd taken, with most of the emphasis being on the 216 & 217
stuff.
It MAY have been adapted. If anyone who has taken an adaptive exam reads
this, let me know if this is how it goes: You answer some questions that
seem relatively easy, then the exam starts throwing some questions at you
that require a bit more thought. After answering one that felt wrong to me,
it was back to the easy ones. Maybe I was just paranoid. Thoughts?

| I agree on your feelings about adaptive.
The 218 is best taken before the 216 and 217 imo.
Proper study with the 218 helps with both.
I have one more to go, the 219 before moving on to the MCAD and the .Net
MCSD.

| I'd say go for the 218 since you have all that material fresh in your mind. Then it is always time to go take another test with new material. It is not an easy test, but it sure is a ton easier than the 216. Best of luck to you | |

| If you're planning to go for MCSE steer clear of 218, its a waste of time
and you don't really learn much other than a summary of the core exams.
the 218 is only of value if you plan to stay on MCSA for a while.... (over a
year) i got my MCSE before i even get the MCSA certificate...go figure
although i took it to get my mcsa first - in hindsight i should've done the
core, ad design, exchange and another more useful elective such as migrating
from nt, exchange design, security design or network design....
cheers
