Okay, well today I will do things a little different. I am sitting in a
B&N's which also has a Starbucks Cafe. I only mentioned this because our
laptops have wireless cards and through T-mobile I can surf while near a
starbucks. I will spend most of my day here, and update you throughout the
day. I have a couple of questions, tho'. Some of you have mentioned cheat
sheets, are people carrying cheat sheets into these exams? Also, these
newsgroups and the book I'm reading talks of braindumping - which I
understand to be the memorizing of questions and answers - what good does
that do a person if the pool of questions come from a lot of thousands? And
finally, some of you have refer to sites for me to do practice exams - is
this consider brain dumping as well? I have downloaded a program called
Examgear (I got a 73% on the Core, but a 29% on the OS portion (Why all the
questions about DOS is beyond me) - You need 70% to pass), the problem with
this program and also PrepLogic's Comptia A+ software is that they don't
seem to pull from a large pool of questions. Using PrepLogic my last test
score was 90%, but not because I studied, because I just kept retaking the
test (braindumping?)...
Also, I don't personally pay for the test and thanks to all well-wishers...

No cheat sheets are allowed. They will furnish you with some paper and a
pencil so you can write down whatever you think might be beneficial (COM,
IRQ, DMA, etc.).
Also, these

From what I remember a brain dump is somebody "dumping" all the information
that was needed for a particular exam. Never used one before though. Since
the A+ is adaptive I don't think it is very useful.

You'll need to know some basic commands, i.e. how to get around a hard disk
from the command prompt, how to use FDISK but you won't get many, if any,
DOS questions.
- You need 70% to pass), the problem with

Go to www.skilldrill.com and take the A+ Foundation Series tests. If you
score 3.5 to 4 consistently you may have a good chance but always remember
that the questions on the exam will be different.

No, memorizing them beforehand (aka braindumps), can't take anything into
the test room.

The question pools might not be that large, I don't think anyone really
knows.

No, only actual (stolen) exam questions are cheating, but beware of
practice exams with wrong answers. Some of the "free" or cheap MCSE
practice tests have wrong answers. One web test had 10% wrong answers
that I caught, who knows how many more that I didn't catch.

You are not allowed to carry any outside materials into the testing
room.

Braindumping is memorizing the q&a and then posting them online for
other losers to read and memorize. They cheat themselves and the rest of
us who worked hard to get the cert by devaluing what the cert stands
for. This practice is also in violation of the NDA (non-disclosure
agreement) you digitally sign before taking a test. Violators have been
known to have their certs stripped and blacklisted from taking further
exams.
Not to be confused with a brain dump, in which upon entering the testing
room you write down information for your use during the test (provided
such information was legally obtained)
> finally, some of you have refer to sites for me to do practice exams - is

No, as long as the site does not pull their questions from the actual
exam's live question pool. Many 'test simulators' are quite beneficial
and helpful w/o compromising the ethics of good test taking.

Most of the freebies don't have a large question pool. Registered
versions will have a much larger question pool.

Not braindumping (unless the questions are actual A+ questions). BTW -
preparing by just taking practice exams (and not studying first) will
not help you pass. The best method is to spend a good percentage
studying the material and near the end, take practice tests, and then
restudy your weak areas.
> Also, I don't personally pay for the test and thanks to all well-wishers...
Most of us here will wish you well, if you respect the certs and the
process and don't cheat your way in.

Close. braindumps are the memorizing of the ACTUAL questions on a real
MCP exam. i.e. some company sends in a test-taker whose purpose is NOT
to pass the test, but to memorize as many of the questions as they can,
for the purpose of selling them to other potential test takers. These
people exit the exams, and immediately "dump their brains" onto paper,
writing down as much as they can.
Microsoft pursues (and sues) those selling braindumps.
Microsoft ENCOURAGES the selling of practice exams from legitimate
companies that make up their own questions, and don't steal them from
the actual exam. CBT and Transcenders are a couple of "good guys".

No, just being familiar with the 40 free questions. If you want more
than 40 sample free questions, you need to buy their full package, which
comes with hundreds. Take the PrepLogic samples often enough, and
you'll get 100%.... but you won't be ready to sit a real exam... just
that 40 question subset.
