Author OT: Best format for Video Files

I have some .avi video files that I want to archive to CD but some are very
long i.e. 700mb +. Does anyone know what the most efficient coding mechanism
is in terms of minimum file size? I know of Mpeg, WMA, but don't know which
is the smallest or if there are any others.

TIA

if they are about 700Mb they will probly already be Divx4, im guessing they
are dvdrips. the only way to make them smaller is to record in a lower
resolution. However have u tried 90min cd's with your writer, it allows for
alot more info and works with most writers, i can usually get 710Mb on a
700Mb cd if i enable overburn. If u try and it fails try a slower write
speed (10x).
