| I passed the 70-210 & the 70-215 with Sybex and Network administration
experience. I'm curious if anyone knows if the 70-216 requires
additional study material. I've been a network administrator for
years, and have the MCSE 4.0, but when testing I seem have difficulty
thinking the MS way. Any help is greatly appreciated.

| Unless you are VERY familiar with using 2K for Routing, RAS, VPN and NAT,
you will need significant study time and materials. You also definitely
need to know how the different combinations work together (where
applicable), and details about all the different protocols (MS-CHAP, MS-CHAP
v2, PPTP etc) AND certificates.
This was the most difficult exam I've taken yet. I passed it on my first
try, but I would still say it was harder than the one exam that I failed the
first time (SQL- 70-228... which in hindsight, I simply had not studied
enough).
Good Luck,
Scott

70-216 is the widow maker. Make sure you study up on all the relevant
concepts before you tackle this one. Many people say that this is the
most difficult Microsoft exam out there. I went into that exam
thinking I knew the material well from years of practical use, but I
came out feeling like I had been put through a blender.
Part of the problem comes from there being a right way, a wrong way,
and a Microsoft way for doing things. Most people wouldn't dream of
using a Win2K server as a router, but this test expects you to.
Fortunately, the study guides out there present the material as
Microsoft would expect you to know if.
Of course, if you finish your MCSE and go on to Cisco exams you can
throw away some of that knowledge.
Here are some materials that can help you with the 216:

Thanks for the information, I'm nervous about this one because I've
read so many horror stories as I've lurked around this newsgroup.
All I can do is study, much of the necessary exam information is not
relevant to real life, e.g. using a server as a router.
Thanks for the response, I'll take a litte more time with this one so
I don't waste the $125.00

| Study your a** off that test is HARD! I'm MCSA with one test left for my
MCSE and that was the only test I failed. Had to hit it a second time and
passed.

| I was able to achieve my MCSE, MCSA certification easily. I agree that
the 70-216 exam is one of the toughest exam microsoft produced. for
the fact that it is longer in terms of the scenario based questions. I
do believe however that you can easily pass this exam too if you pay
attention to the concepts.
70-216 exam also covers a lot of subnetting questions which makes it
even more harder. But you can still pass any exam these days, by using
a good "Actual Exam questions" provider. You will get the whole
question pool in a PDF file that you can study and go for the test. So
it seems that nothing is hard these days. A good actual questions
exams provider that I used is www.it-recognized.com that has all the
question pool in a PDF file.
What else can be offered ? you have the questions, and all you need to
do is just study them. I do suggest that you have a background using
MS products before attempting the 70-216 exam. it is hard if you dont
know what you doing, and it is a really simple exam, if you study
well, and if you know what you doing.
A good rule of thumb to use when going for you exam is to cram the
night before you take the exam, try to study questions 1 night before
your schdules exam date, this way, the materials will be fresh in your
mind once you take the exam. Also, Take a good night sleep before any
exam.
What else ? .... Just use a good practice exam, study it, and go for
any test, and you will pass. I took about 15 tests already and I never
failed one. I am MCSE, MCSA, OCP, CCNA, CCNP...
Good Luck, study hard for the 70-216 exam. email me if u need help.

| I second that....and I wish they had a VERY LARGE question database...that
**might** help eliminate the masses of paper MCSE's who cheated their way
through the tests....

| There are only so many questions they can ask for each test. It
wouldn't take long to figure out the questions are the same, with
different scenarios (which they pretty much seen to do now). The
question of paper MCSE's can only be answered by present MCSE's
getting formal education and moving up within a company to be able to
make hiring decisions. If not formal education, then at least taking
the initiative within a company to influence the hiring decisions.
I have been in this field for over 15 years and have been disgusted by
the quality of MCSEs and CNEs. The 2K track is the closest thing to a
credible certification I have seen aside from the Cisco (CCNP, not
CCNA) track. Hence the reason I made the decision to get an MBA prior
to bothering with Microsoft certifications.
