Hi,

I set up Nat on my home network ( 2 w2k servers) and
somehow there is no name resolution.
I did not configured default gateway and dns on the Nat's Nic but
enabled name resolution, using the demand-dial interface on the Nat
properties.
Regardless of configuring the client machine with dns or not, name
resolution is not working.
When I type a dns name in the browser on the client, connection is not
iniciated and I found a negative response checking the DNS cache . When I
type an IP address in the browser on the client, Nat works properly.
Have you got any idea why there is no name resolution?

does name resolution work ok on the NAT server? so u can use DNS names on
that?
if it works on that and not on NAT clients then try putting in the DNS
servers adress on the clients on the TCP/IP settings.

otherwise if you have a DHCP server setup add the DNS server to the scope
options.
put ur local NAT server as the main option for a DNS server, and the
secondary as ur ISP's DNS server!!

The Address Assignment and Name Resolution tabs, in NAT properties, seem to
be designed to work in conjuction with eachother. I've always found that the
Name Resolution tab only seems to come into play if using NAT's own mini
DHCP service. If you don't select the check boxes you don't get DNS name
resolution. Another way to achieve name resolution with NAT is to use the
NAT server as a DNS proxy. Put your ISP's DNS server IP addresses within
the TCP/IP properties of your private interface and point all NAT clients to
the IP of your NAT server for DNS. If that doesn't work and you are running
DHCP proper, directly supplying clients with your ISP's DNS should work too.
Hope you find the problem!
