Hi all,

Apologies for the lenght - it's a big problem for me and I hope I've given you enough details, if you feel like helping me a little.

I was sys/ntwk admin for a good couple of years, but only had NT mcps - by the time I got to the last exam they retired it.
Now I've been made redundant and there's nothing going here.

If I really strech it, I have exactly 4months before money runs totally out. So given I have experience I was hoping to stay in the field, but I realise that I need to get the full Win2k MCSE within that time - otherwise I'll be forced out of the field, and I'm already 35 ;-(

A simple division gives me 2.4 weeks per exam, **unrealistically** assuming they'd each take the same time....

Could anybody reading this please give me a tentative schedule per exam? Please consider I have no family over here, and I stopped any social life: all my time must be on this.
I'm not even sleeping, it's a full immersion only.

Please help me out in scheduling - I have a working network at home and the books, but if you took these exams you certainly know far better! I've combined the list according to 1)need to get some form of cert asap (mcsa) and 2) subjects relevant to what I was doing.
MCSA
Exam 70–218
Exam 70–215
Exam 70–210
Exam 70–216
to run onto for MCSE:
Exam 70-217
Exam 70-220
Exam 70–224

Important note: I have full respect to all of you that know each subject inside out and that approached the MCSE giving it the time that it needs. I used to do it for NT, but now I really need to be able to pay bills and groceries soon very soon... and this is why I need somebody's help, I've never crammed anything like this before!

Thanks a lot !!! (not least for surviving the lenghy post)

Best of luck to you!!! One thing you have to realize is that an MCSA or MCSE
wont guarantee you a job, even if you have all that experience behind you. I
have a few pointers for you but im running out of time!!! I got to sit 2
exams today! Citrix and Cisco! Have to go now... Til after then...

I have done Pro and Server in 4 weeks. I am not working at the moment due
to moving from the UK to the US. If you have and experience and you like
reading then you should certainly be able to do Pro and server in 2 weeks.
I was not pushing myself as hard as I could have. Also they Pro and Server
have enough crossover to make Server reading up not as bad. I have just
started studying 218 and my first impressions are with experience, Pro and
Server aready gone 218 shouldn't be too difficult. I would study in the
order 210, 215, 218, 216, etc.

Hi Jeff,

thanks a lot for the pointers, I guess you're right totally both in the timing and the order of the exams.
Big change since yesterday is I've been offered a job by a company I interviewed with 2 months ago! They want me starting 1december - so I figure I should try and do the 215 first to have it done before training in their products begin (firewalls, etc) so that I'll have fresh win2k server lingo, then I hope I'll be able to do the 210 immediately after, using the overlapping you were mentioning.

Good luck with the move and well done on those timings!

Thanks :-)

J.

Ptec, I'll check out the site, it looks interesting, cheers.

My tried and proven method is to study all of the core subjects before
sitting any server exams. Knowing all core subjects you should cruise through
server and pro/XP exams. The AD courseware is tedious but the exam is
relitively easy. With Net Infrastructure, you need to take your time.
If you do AD and Net Infra courseware you should be able to sit the
Network Admin (for MCSA) exam. It is a blend of the two.

I do teach this stuff and have had good feedback about this approach.
Assuming that you are studying full time, I would work to something like:

270 exam - 2 weeks from now
then 6 weeks to study all material related to 215,216,217.

215 exam - 8 weeks from now
217 exam - 9 weeks from now
216 exam - 10 weeks from now

That would get you through the core.

Just relax and focus yourself on each goal. Adjust the schedule to suite
and have faith in yourself.
There is a lot of material and you need to be dedicated. This schedule may
be unrealistic, but at least its a schedule. Change it to suite.
