Author I suck at tests!

Yes, really!

It always drove my teaches nuts. They knew I knew the answers, and I knew
it. But sit me in front of a test, and my brain goes dead.

Case in point was my pilots test. I knew the shit inside and out, as I have
been interested in aviation since I was a kid. My wife on the other hand
decided she wanted to get her license with me. She was one of those
straight A students in school. It was hard for her, but she had good study
skills. She pulls an 88 and I bust with a 73. I was so pissed. Went back
the next day and pulled a 94, but it proved my point!

The MCSE tests will kill me for sure. Not sure what to do. Maybe I rush
too much, or I just have brain lock. I've been working in networks since
1980's, and even though I do the job, the company now wants a piece of
paper.

There may be an opening in my company soon :-)

Anyone else have this problem? Or do I have some rare disease?

very simply... you have severe test anxiety... and no you are not alone... I
suffer from it as well... here are a few little tricks I have learned....

1. study study study... have a friend as you obscure questions...

2. dont study on the day of the test

3. get a good nights sleep

now to the test phase...

1. during the test, read the question and answers... then go back and read
the question again...

2. answer the ones you know absolutely

3. go back and re-read the ones you are not sure of... see if you can think
it thru (this works because you have just answered a whole bunch of
questions that you DID know - confidence booster)

4. if the end of the exam is nearing... go back over the ones you still
havent answered and ... GUESS!! yes, guess... you at least have a chance to
get it right as opposed to no answer at all.

This has worked for me. I may not work for you but look on the web... there
are lots of google results from test anxiety. There may be a solution there
that would help if the above doesnt.

Good luck

Sue has it just about right there.
One other thing about the questions you are unsure of and have to guess -
usually there are 1 or 2 answers that you KNOW are wrong - eliminate them
and then your guess is usually 50/50 - much better odds :-)
