Author proxy question

I have microsoft proxy enabled on my lab server and 2 nics (inside nic goes
to a switch with 2 computers attached). External nic goes to cable router.
I'm using proxy so I can become familiar with it. I went to IIS snap in ,web
proxy properties and clicked on security.I enabled packet filtering and
predefined filters for pop3,smtp,http,https and icmp. I then went to
"shields up" and had them run a port scan and they said these ports were
open and they shouldn't be. I then went back into wed proxy security and
disabled packet filtering and "shields up" said they were sill open. If I
have my private lan using 192.168.x.x I'm assuming it's ok for these ports
to show open. Packet filtiring or not. Am I correct? I heard it might be
risky to run proxy on the same server that all my other services are on. Is
this true? Once I feel comfortable with Proxy I'm going to uninstall it and
enable RRAS and NAT on this server to play around with it. Will I have the
same open port scenario?
TIA
