| I did have WinXP Pro installed as the only OS on my C:\ and after I
installed Win2k Server as a member server in the same partition as my
WinXP partition, winxp doesn't start up anymore!!
Is it possible to fix this or do I have to start from scratch?
I sure don't want to re-install everything

| Although they (by default) install to different directories, Microsoft
doesn't recommend you install XP Pro and 2K to the same partition. I tried
to use Partition Magic to separate the disk partition tables, but the disk
config. was all screwed up. Luckily I had a backup and just wiped the drive
clean.
You could try checking the boot.ini file and see if the pointers to the 2
OS'es are well marked. XP ought to point to C:\Windows and 2K ought to point
to %systemroot%\Winnt -or whatever name you chose at startup time.
Do you get a specific error when you start. I got a blue screen
'Inaccessible Boot Device' on XP Pro. Do you get something similar or does
it just not work at all?
Also: try searching for Knowledge Base articles at:
http://support.microsoft.com
If no solution exists there, or via Googling, then back your stuff up, by
Partition Magic 7.0 (not an earlier version, they won't play well with XP-so
PowerQuest says) and format away....

G.

| If you set up a dual boot with Win 2k over Win Xp, Win 2k replaces the the
NTLDR file with an older version that XP doesn't recognize. If you put the
proper version of that file back into the system partition, it should be ok.

| I dont remember which I installed first, but I think it was xp, and then
win2k, but then I had to repair XP for it to boot up, or vice versa

so I could fix this but booting up with the recovery console and just
replace the NTLDR file?

| Hey Rob
I think you will find that just copying the XP NTLDR into the system will do
the trick.
