Author Courier POP authentication problems

Hello,

I have recently installed the Courier-POP3 Server in my Debian System to
be able to use maildirs. I have also created the mail directories in my
home directory and configured exim. This seems to work fine.
Now my problem:

I am not able to login into the POP3 server via any mail client (Mozilla,
KMail, Outlook, Eudora, either on the local machine nor remote). But the
funny thing is that a login with netcat works. I can do a "netcat
localhost 110" and then login with USER und PASS.

Does anyone know, how to solve this stupid problem?

Thank you in advance,
Manuel.
