NT4.0 to LINUX...!

| Good morning,
I'm currently running a WinNT4.0 server (with two NIC's one internet and the
other for internal network) with Proxy Server 2.0 for my internet access
through a cable modem...
Cable modem -> NT40 -> 3COM Router -> Internal network
It works great but let's face it I need to get a life and I need to change
this setup over to LINUX...Funny thing is one of the machines on my internal
network is a LINUX (GNU/Debian) box and it works great!
The Proxy Server 2.0 on the NT4.0 box acts as my router/interface with the
internet/intranet...I guess my question is how do I go about setting up my
LINUX box to basically do the same thing? Once I get this worked out I'll
convert the WinNT4.0 box to LINUX, too...Just for good measure!
Your advice and opinions are greatly appreciated...
Cordially,
Arous

| Anyone moving from MS to Linux deserves a reply ;-) Good move m8!
Go to http://www.tldp.org/ and search for IP Masquerading, NAT and iptables.
That should cover it. Not really hard to set up. Use squid as proxy, it is
a very good program and has good docs. If you really need a proxy, that is.
NAT is probably the thing you're really after.

my advice, check out some firewall scripts on http://freshmeat.net.
Use the most recent debian distro (3.0) and if you want to make life
easier, check this script http://www.shorewall.net , it also has some
good docs so perfect to start with. (I use it whenever I need a setup
like you want..)
g'luck,
kristof.
