How to configure K-mail for HTML?
|
|
| Shur Gopal 2002-08-29, 10:28 pm |
| Greetings to you!
I just installed SuSe Linux Professional 8.0 and it is just wonderful. I
now wonder why did not change over to Linux earlier!
I have a question. My SuSe Linux Professional 8.0 has K-Mail e-mal client.
I tried to configure it for HTML format to send and receive messages. But
to my surprise it doesn't display mail in HTML format. It displays mails
only in Text format. I know that I have configured the K-Mail correctly. I
never used to have this problem with Outlook Express on my Windows XP
machine!
Please advise me how I can configure K-mail for HTML type of Sending and
Reading mails.
Thanks and regards,
Shur

The common response might be, "read the manual," but another may be:
go into "settings", then "configure kmail"
click the security tab
check the "prefer HTML" box
check the "load external references" box (to load pictures on the internet)

That really has no bearing on the situation you just described. If you were
having touble connecting to your ISP in Linux, but were not in XP, you
should probably add that. Outlook is not Kmail is not Netscape messenger.
Don't add useless information. Also, you probably should have gone to the
kde website first (www.kde.org), or even posted to their newsgroup
(comp.windows.x.kde)

This will allow the OP to view HTML mail, but not send it. If the OP wants
to be able to send HTML mail, he or she will need to use another e-mail
client. Perhaps Netscape 7, or Mozilla would be more suitable.

| There are interesting rants and threads about this for many a mail client.
KMail (for good, IMHO) will display, but not compose html mail.

Yukk! Don't. Stick to plain text for email - it's the accepted
convention and good netiquette. There are a huge number of people who
use mail programs that cannot read html mail, and it is considered bad
form to send it! Why would anyone even want to send html email? If you
can't get the message across in plain text, it probably isn't worth
sending - just my 2c worth Of course, you can go ahead and do it if
you insist, but not with KMail. However, if I receive an email in html,
it gets deleted immediately - I don't even read it.
