| Hiya, I wish to know how KDM/GDM can shutdown my system without logging
in a root yet I can't while logged in as an ordinary user. I know I have
KDM configured to do this but I can't see how it works. I noticed a halt
and shutdown entry in /etc/passwd, but unsure what they are doing there
and how it would work. Shutdown docs mention a /etc/shutdown.allow file
that contains a list of users able to shutdown a system. Fair enough?. I
wack a username in there yet that user can still not shutdown while
logged in. (using the -a switch).
Using sudo works fine, but why the /etc/shutdown.allow file and how can
KDM/GDM do this?
Thanks!
