Linux on Sun Blade 100
|
|
|
| Hi there,
Has anyone installed linux on a Sun Blade 100?
I saw that several distributions, including debian, support
sun4u/Blade but I cannot find any details on how successful
the installation is, what problems I have to resolve, etc.
My box is a Sun Blade 100, 500 MHz UltraSPARC-IIe, with
Expert3D-lite graphics and SunPCi IIpro coproseccor.
It has two hard drives, and I am thinking to install linux
on the second one, so that Solaris and linux are on different
drives - I suppose that this can be done easily although I
have never done it (???)
Any feedback will be appreciated!

I wrote an howto about it a couple of weeks ago you can find it at my
homepage:
http://www.de-brauwer.be/docs/debian_on_sun.html
In this document is discribed how to install debian on a Sun blade 100
without Expert3d-lit nor SunPCi II coprossessor (are you rich or so :P )
because i don't have that hardware at my disposal. In that howto is
discribed how to put debian on the standard empty 12 gig partition mounted
under /space by a default install, you'll have it a lot easier because you
don't need to mess whit that sun disklabel.
hope this helps
(on the ends of the howto there are some usefull links concerning the sun
blade 100 which you might also find interesting).
greetings
