Author A distro that includes support for Alcatel USB DSL Modem.

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and giving up on MS Windows totally.
Now theres a couple of decent Office packages there is only one
stumbling block.

My Alcatel USB DSL modem. (Speedster)

I know there are drivers out there, but they look a nightmare to
install and I'd rather not if possible. :-o

Any good distributions come with it installed as standard?

Not that I know of I'm afraid, some distros claim to have ADSL support but
this is usually only for PPPoE I'm guessing you need PPPoA like me.
Mandrake and SuSE both now have PPPoA in the kernel so you can ignore the
bit about adding kernel modules when using the Alcatel drivers.

For me however this project

http://speedtouch.sourceforge.net/

was easier to install and is running well on my system (SuSE 8.0) with the
Alcatel USB DSL Modem, it does not need kernel PPPoA support just USB
support, so pick whatever Distro takes your fancy.

If you are on PPPoE then you should have already discovered this )

If you base your qualification for "good" as any distro that has it
standard then I would just hop over to http://distrowatch.com and look
through there at each of the distros available and then if a distro
sounds good to you then go over to thier site and see if you can find
some information on whether your modem is covered.

But one day you will learn that by relying on the distro to take care
of such things for you that you will end up hating linux for the same
reasons you hate windows.

When you start to take linux into your own hands and mold it in your
image it becomes a powerful tool to make you ideas come true. I have
a fealing that what you are looking for is a OS that won't XXXX things
up and not a OS that does everything for you.

Learn to install the driver on your own. Read and learn.

And here I thought I was the only person who did that in the news
groups.
