| Hey!
Quick question:
I've got a old Logitech QuickCam VC. I know there is a sourforge project
(that does indeed work quite well) for this cam. However, it's still a
REALLY old cam and is falling apart enough to the point it's only taking
B&W pics now (on Linux or Win*) and the software that Logitech has
available for Win totally chokes when trying to upload the .JPG to a ftp
site (my guess is IE6 is the culprit, but the Linux project still works
(again, only B&W)). My question is, is there any Linux friendly webcams
out there that I could replace this one with? USB models would be nice,
but not mandatory...
Thanx, all!

| Could you tell me how you got the Logitech QuickCam traveler to be
recognized by linux? I'm using RH 7.3, thanks

There's a sourceforge project at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/usb-quickcam-vc/
It's a kernel module that you compile. It's bit tricky to get working,
but the readme is pretty good. Obviously you need two things to be true
first:
1) Your kernel's source
2) USB support is working.
The down side is, just like with nVidia's drivers, you have to update it
for every kernel upgrade you do. :-\
Other than that, the best I can say is that the readme is well written,
and that I cn prove that the project works.
Here's two (older) pics I had taken with mine:
Me a few months before I finally got my hair cut:
http://www.cimquest.com/now4.jpg
After hair cut:
http://www.cimquest.com/no-hair.jpg
As you see, the quality is pretty good, but I could only get B&W out of
it. :-(
