Hello,

Exploring the possibilities of moving
from M$ Windooozzz to Mandrake Linux..
I have visited the Mandrake Linux site,
but cannot figure out what version is
suitable for my 350 MHz AMD K6-2
processor.

Is there a table or something with
more specific information?

Thanx

At least 8.2 is known to work with your processor.

Might think about using a lighter windowmanager though.
Ice would do nicely. I found that both KDE and Gnome as a tad slow and my K6
400 with 256 mges of ram..flies on my other box Athlon 1700+ with 512 megs
ranm tough

Hello,

I instaled Mandrake 8.2 3 days ago and it runs OK (maybe a bit slowly,
but I think it is due my swap partition is too little). By the way,
what is the recomended sapce for swap partitions?

See you later,

Joan

Recommended swap space is at least twice your main memory. e.g., if you have
256 Mb RAM, then your swap space should be at least 512 MB.

I'm using 6.2 on a K6-2 with a via chip set and it
didn't like this machine. It was a real pain in the XXX to get installed.
It won't run with my ati rage care if I use hardware acceleration.
I'm not very impressed with it.

I am using Mandrake 8.2 0n a 300 AMD K6-2. Works great, just stay away from
KDE and Gnome, they both work with no problems but they are slow. I also
have Win98 on the same 300, mandrake is faster, if you take the time to set
it up properly. It will run with no problems if you use defaults on install
but it will be sloww. Just got to tweak a little for a rocket.
