Hi,

First, thank you for reading this message.

I'm really newbie with linux i just have 4 days with it.

I have installed mandrake 9.0 on my toshiba tecra 8100. Everything
works fine (except for winmodem). I have bought a NETGEAR PCMCIA
16BIT. the computer reconizes and is listed in the control center but
I then it askes me to choose a driver then I choose tulip but it never
worked I dont know what netmask, dchp and any parameters I need to make
it work I remember w2k reconized all this automatically.

This is what I have tried so far.

booted as root, then runned cardctl ident and copy whaever info in the
etc\pcmcia\config. then i reboot the PC but still is not connecting.
(advice from a user group)

can you please help me with this if this card does not work can you
please recomend me a compatible card that can work with mandrake 9.0.

I;m really willing to learn Linux but if I cant go to the net and do
my stuff on my laptop is not really worth it.

also what about a hint for my modem? my modem is a Lucent modem I
heard this is a winmodem and is not supported by linux if so, what
good & compatible modem/NIC combo or just single nic PCMCIA card do
you recommend for this Linux Newbie?

thanks

Welcome to the world of Linux!

If w2kk recognised it all automagically, it probably was because you're
using some kind of DHCP server on your network. Yet, you don't tell us
how your network is organised, so it's kinda hard to help you out on
this.

The Mandrake hardware database lists the NETGEAR FA511 LAN adapter as
using module tulip_cb, not module tulip.

See if others can make your actual device work, first.

I use the:
Xircom=AE RealPort? CardBus Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56 GlobalACCESS? Ad=
apter
with Mandrake 9 and it installed well and works fine.
