Author Launching a service with shell script

2002-12-20, 4:24 am

Hi everybody,

I'm new to linux and I would like to launch a java server that I wrote
as a service on a linux machine.

I tried to read the 'readme' file in /etc/rc.d/init.d but it's a bit
rough to understand for a newbie (on a Suse distribution) !..

If someone could give some adresses where I could find informations
about writing shell scripts for that purpose, I would apreciate.

Many thanks.

See /etc/init.d/skeleton as an example you can copy and modify, or other
scripts there to see how they do it. Also see 'man startproc'.

Note that if you need something in the environment for that process you
may need to set (export) it there and should use full paths, since you
don't really know current working dir.
