ADSL Modem MTU and User Login doesn't work...

| Hello Everyone!
I am just another newby, whom can not understand the how-to, but when
i will, i'll win't need them...
I installed Mandrake 9.0 on a 40Bg slave drive. It was more than a
breeze... Nothing ever installed on a PC like this was!!! But,
irrespectively how many User I create with proper passwords and
various priviliges, doesn't let me log on unless I am a "root" (after
a while I feel likeone... ;> ) )
Also, I changed my D-Link DSL-100D ethernet modem to a Billion
BIPAC-711 modem/router, because it has Linux support built-in, oppose
to the D-Link one which has no off-the-shelf driver. Running
beautifully!
For couple minutes. Then disconnects, freezes. According to the
manufacturers FAQ, I need to adjust the MTU setting and set it between
1400 and 1450. I did it with SuperTweak in WinXP, but I would not have
a clue how to do it in Mdrk 9.0. Anyone can help me please! No other
settings: only the MTU.
Thanx in advance, mazsom

Greetings,
If you're trying to change the MTU on your ethernet adapter you should
type the following as root. ifconfig eth0 mtu N where N is 1400-1450.
If you're trying to set the MTU on the DSL router, you'll most likely
need to do that in the router's web based configuration.
Best of luck,
