RedHat 8.0 and Win98 dualboot

| I have been catching hell trying to get these 2 to dualboot. I haven't
succesfully gotten then to both exist on the drive simultaneously. First, I
tried to install Win98 and then Linux. Linux wouldn't recognise a second
partition I had made in Windows Fdisk (Extended DOS partition). So I wiped
the drive and installed RedHat alone. Win98 wouldn't even recognize the
partition. So I wiped it again, used the full disk space, and am just
running Win98 now. Is there a way (preferably without formatting again) to
install RedHat 8.0 on an Athlon 1.2 GHz, 128 Mb RAM in a dualboot config?
Also, when I did get RedHat running, I couldn't use my internet connection,
since its list of ethernet cards didn't include my own. Any help is
appreciated.

What you want to do is install windoze and leave a free partition
that is unformated and an unknown type. EG, delete it with fdisk.
Now you can select the free partition during RH install.
Be sure to set PNP OS=off/no/false/0 in the bios.

Not at all sure what you did. But, yes, I believe that Redhat does allow
disk repartitioning.
What you do is to start the installation of Linux. Use the expert
install option. When it asks ask it to shrink the size of the Windows
partition, doen to whatever you want (2GB say) That leaves a bunch of
free space on the disk. Now set up Linux partitions, and install linux.
At the end it will ask you re the boot loader. Make sure Windows is
listed as one of the options. (It should be by default) and away you go.
When you originally partitioned it with Windows Fdisk, the idea was to
use linux to just erase the second partition and then put the Linux
stuff in the empty space.

| Either:
Try installing Red Hat now, and see if it will allow you to resize
your Windows partition.
Or:
Or, here is the easiest method, although it does require another
format.
1. Run fdisk, and make a single partition, only as large as you want
for your Windows 98 installation.
2. Reboot, format, and install 98.
3. Install Red Hat, and tell it to use the free space on the disk.
I hope you continue to seek help from the Linux community, before you
give on up Linux.
