| Hi,
However very literate in hardware and Windows I'm a newbie
in Linux and have just installed Mandrake 9.0 on my computer
at home.
In general I'm impressed with the ease of use and reachness of
applications come with the OS but my spelling is bad and I need
a spell checker. Could a kind soul let me know if there is a spell
checker with any of the email applications come with the system
or how do I enable this feature. Is there a general spell checker
engine which come with the system and how do you make use
of it in the other application.

Take a look at "ispell" and "aspell".

I don't have a clue ;-) You should be able to find that info on Google,
using the keywords above.

Evolution is what I use, and it underlines misspelled words in red. I
know redhat 8.0 has it installed by default, so Mandrake 9.0 might as
well.

I believe that pine also has a spell checker. To use it you use control+T
when in the body of the email.

There is aspell and ispell.

Many applications are linked to one or another spell checker. Just check
their help pages. That's "H - E - L - P".

Ispell and aspell are the generic spell checkers.
Mail readers like kmail or evolution have spell checking
built in but if you use one that doesn't like sylpheed you
could use an external editor emacs which does spell checking.
