RHL 8.0 boot hangs after "apm:" message
|
|
|
| I have done a clean install of RedHat Linux 8.0 on my Dell Lattitude 4100
(800Mhz, built Oct 2000), but can't get it to boot. It locks up tight
(keyboard won't even respond) during what looks like the initial
probe/config part of the boot. The last two lines printed on the screen
are:
Initializing RT netlink socket
apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.16)
The installation went perfectly, and by the book. Full install (not an
upgrade). This system ran RHL 7.x spendidly.
I'm really stuck. Can anyone help?
Thanks,

Use the interactive boot, and prevent the problem step from being executed.
