| Hmmn a tricky one.
Ok first make sure that you have the latest package of sane, use the update package under mandrake to download the latest package... dont ask me how this is done, i dont use mandrake.
Then open a terminal. Type in the command
sane-find-scanner
this should post a whole lot of text. If you can paste this into the post, then this will help us solve your problem

| To get my epson USB scanner to work, I had to uncomment some lines in my
/etc/sane.d/espon.conf file. Maybe you need to do something similar?
# USB scanner - only enable this if you have an EPSON scanner. It could
# otherwise block your non-EPSON scanner from being
# recognized.
# Depending on your distribution, you may need either the
# first or the second entry.
usb /dev/usb/scanner0
Just a thought.
