Author need help printing to print server

Hi,

We have an office made up primarily of Windows machines (98, 2000, and XP
Pro). We have just added a Linux machine (running Lycoris) and most things
are working great.

Unfortunately, although I'm very good with Windows, I'm a newbie when it
comes to Linux. I cannot figure out how to connect to the print server (one
of those little ethernet print server "appliances").

From the Windows XP machine, I simply print to "http://192.168.1.98/lp3".

I'm not even sure where to start. Please help.

Tim.

It's ok. After poking around for 20 minutes, I figured it out. If I had to
do it again, it would take seconds. It wasn't completely obvious, though.

Hi,

My apologies, I should have posted the solution up here. Unfortunately, I'm
currently sitting here in Windows XP, so I'll have to reboot to make notes
of the exact steps. I'll post the details for tomorrow.

Tim

Hi Alien,

Sorry for the delay...here's the solution. This worked great for me, but of
course, YMMV. :-)

1. Open Control Center, then click "Printers and other hardware".
2. click on "add / remove printer"
3. click the "printer" menu at the top, and choose "add printer / class"
4. click next.
5. choose "LPD - Line Printer Daemon" and hit Next.
6. Under Host, put the IP address of the print server appliance (in my
case, 192.168.1.99)
7. Under Queue, put the name of the particular queue (in my case, LP2). Hit
next.
8. Pick the printer from the list (or something compatible--mine is PCL 6
compatible, so I just picked an HP Laserjet 6).
9. Done.

Try a test page, if it works, then smile.

Tim.
