Hello, I am running a Raedeon 8500 LE 64 meg video card, with mandrake 9.0
running at 1280 by
1024 at 24 bit (16 MILLION COLOURS!). When I log on or start up I get the
standard greeter... which is nice, but in the past ( I have been having
some system problems and have reformated and reinstalled linux three times
within the last week), in fact each of the times I have installed it, GDM's
have worked perfectly. For some reason this time they have chosen not to
work. I installed my GDM through gdmsetup accessed as root through the BASH
Shell. I then logged out and to my surprise was at the standard greeter.
When I typed the following into the BASH shell
SU:
Password:
GDM

I received a system error telling me that xserv is already running on :0 and
asks me if I want it to try it again or to put it in a different display
accessed through pressing alt-ctrl-1-x (x= I have no idea how many servers
there are.). I was wondering if anyone has experienced this particular
problem before, and if so what are the steps I can take to correct it.
Thanks,

Nick
