Thats what my Java plugin is known as to mozilla 1.1

Im using the Sun SDK version 1.4.1 and java works fine except in
mozilla. Whenever I try to use the plugin it whinges that I need
to download the plugin manager plugin WTF?? Where couldve that
gone I ask myself?? Anyone got any Ideas on that one? Cos I dont!

I dont mind not having java plugins working (that can be fixed) but
what the heck is the go with it saying (as in subject)? Google isnt
realy of much help as it returns a large volume of maths equations
or nothing.

I would be using Blackdown JRE but it doesnt work when compiled
with gcc3.2 (Gentoo system 1.4rc1)

Weird stuff dude. Have you linked the file libjavaplugin_oji.so (and only
this file) to your plugins directory? Never got SDK 1.4.1 running with
mozilla, btw, so I'm still using JRE 1.3 as browser plugin.

I think your problems are entirely related to your use of GCC 3.2 and a
GCC 3.2-compiled Mozilla. I'm SOL, too. :-)

There was some discussion in alt.os.linux.slackware a while back where a
Galeon developer stopped by and 'splained things to us. The long and
short of it was you need to compile java yourself, and you can get Sun's
java to do it. But it is a royal pain in the XXX. IIRC, the Galeon dev
was unable to do it himself.

Sun's license is very restrictive. You can't legally redistribute the
GCC 3.2-compiled Java (or any Java VM you compile yourself from their
source code) so you can't legally get it from somebody else. I can't
get it from somebody else. And that somebody else isn't supposed to
give it to us, either. :-(

So I have to use Nutscrape to play my Java games until such a time as
Sun (or Blackdown or IBM) see fit to release a GCC
3.2-compiled/compatable version of a Java VM. But, everybody using
Slackware 9.0, RedHat 8.0, Debian's bleeding-edge version, and (I think)
Mandrake 9.0 is SOL, too... so that's ok.

I really think the naming problems (which I see here, myself) are
directly related to the lack of compatability between the GCC 2.xx
compiled Java and GCC 3.2-compiled browser. :-)

You know, I never was able to get java to work with mozilla 1.1. Plugin's
there, mozilla doesn't seem to want to load it. Oh, well, java's not so
important anyway <G>

I use IBM's version of JRE and have no problems running it with mozilla.

Be sure to get the right release for your system.

Well I just tried installing the IBM JRE and well the same thing
happens identically. Except it says it belongs to IBM not Sun.

An interesting fact is that under mandrake using the same JRE and
mozilla version the plugin used is actually ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so
[BUT] that one wont work for me only the ns4/javaplugin.so will...

Hence I can not get a VM happening, how do I get that too work?

That depends on what you think a VM is.

What happens if you type:

# java -version
