HI all

As the subject says, I am trying to find a freeware program that can scan
image as well as OCR to pdf format. I am using Mandrake 8.1 at the moment on
a nother box. I hope you guys and girls help me out with this cos its the
final program I need to make a full and permanent transition to Linux. I've
RTFM/STFW/SIUYA(stuck it up your XXX - that's my original one ) to no
avail. There is one program called Fytek but has limitations cos it cant do
batch OCR scanning. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Don't crosspost. The Mandrake, Smoothwall and Solaris newsgroups have
nothing to do with this - you're not asking a question specific to their
topic.

Furthermore: forget about PDF, since you only have to print to a file (can
be done from any program that can print), save to 'print.ps' and the run
ps2pdf on the file: tadaa PDF. So all that's left for you to search, is a
program that can do OCR. Sourceforge.net might be a good starting point.

Have you tried a search at freshmeat or sourceforge?

Then your posting is off-topic on any "comp.unix" newsgroup, my
confused young friend. Keep the LINTEL questions out of the UNIX
newsgroups. They are off-topic here.

Hope this helps,
Don

If transitioning to Linux is your goal, why are you asking in
a Solaris newsgroup?

Because kids that use LINUX are clowns, Rich.

Happy to have cleared things up for you,
Don
