Firstly, sorry, I would have posted this on a more relevant site except I'd
like an answer now rather then next week.

I'm working on a website, Unix, Apache server, got full permissions on the
server, except in my HTML folder theres one folder within which is nestled
some other folders and a few .txt files, the result of a php script install
which I tried to delete but it left this almost empty folder instead of
deleting all of it.

Everytime I try to delete it or chmod the files underneath it comes up with
550 permissions denied WS_FTP, also tried deleting it using DOS and
Dreamweaver), and the directory isn't protected at admin level, its strange.

Any thoughts anyone?

Cheers

Almost sounds like you have an unwanted visitor there. A smart operator
could be running something from within your webspace.
I see in your second post that you have the space provided - check with
whoever is providing that space.

You're right. This is the wrong place for a question like that. As a
matter of fact, do you have a clue? Why would you post questions about
apache/Linux in a hoard of Microsoft related newsgroups? L

True, but I have the MCSE, Comptia, etc newsgroups already subcribed to and
have posted on here a few times

Hey, I just posted on here asking if anyone know any solutions to the
problem, if they did'nt, fine, the topic would be ignored and dissappear, it
was just a query for help to IT folks who know a lot more then me,
thankfully they're is people out there who will help people out if help is
requested, if you want I'll get down on my knees and grovel for an apology
from you personally.
You don't work on a IT helpdesk by the way do you Gary, you seem to have all
the right qualities.

back to the subject
Seems I'll have to wait till my IT partner gets back off holiday, I
downloaded SMARTFTP as suggested, and discovered the undeletable folders and
files are actually from another group (group "48") but have no idea how to
delete the group/user from the commands menu, I'll start looking on the
smart website for info

Yea I sort of do work at a helpdesk for Sprint's managed hosting and
collocation customers. But people don't call us with problems with their
long distance or PCS phones, which is similar to what you are doing here.
Aren't there any UNIX/Linux or Apache lists you could have posted the
questions on? I just did a real quick search of the newsgroups available
and there are a load of them. I am not trying to flame you man just curious
why someone would not want to use a better resource if one where available?

Ow, what a touchy bunch you all are, If I ever go further into systems
stuff, I hope I can retain the ability to treat people with civility and
stay human and give help to those that ask for it.
I said before I used to look into some of these group but was put of by the
attitudes of many here as well as the all the stupid trolling, just
remembered why I never look at them anymore.

Last word, Thankyou to Laura, Russ and Chazbrew, thankyou for your replys
and help, cheers

Not sure why that happens but it has happened to me a few times too...
and the way around it is to boot the PC to a C: prompt... and type my
way into the DIR PATH where the file(s) is/are... and delete them from
there... it works!!! I've done that many times too... I think it has
something to do with the way FAT32 interacts with UNIX UFS or EXT2
when converting the file(s) over. But it has never done that on any of
my NTFS drives... heck, even on any Mac, for the matter.

Some people are just to lazy to do the searching for themselves and are
happy trying to get someone else to do it.
