Author New Network + Test

Does anyone know when the new test will start being used, and the old one
will be retired.
I asked once before, but no one answered, just talked about the beta version
of it, and the book to match. I don't care about that, I just want to know
when the new test is going to take over, and when the old test is not going
to be used anymore.

Thanks

CompTIA is being unusually tight-lipped about this. There is nothing on
the www.comptia.org website beyond the information about the beta exam
being underway with a projected cutoff date of 12-31-04 that still could
change.

I seem to remember reading several months ago that CompTIA was planning
to alolow the old exam to continue until late spring 2005 (to allow the
educational institutions time to finish semesters). Books need to be
rewritten and ordered for classes over the summer and next fall and this
all takes time. CompTIA seems to finally be aware of that.

And that is *all* that I've heard.

My best guess at this point is that either one of two things will
happen. One, the new objectives will go live at the end of the Spring
semester educational year (late April/May 2005) and the old objectives
and test will be immediately retired. I really don't feel that this is
very likely.

The second, and probably more likely, is that the new objectives will
"go live" in the spring of 2005 with the old exam and objectives running
in parallel for a few months and finally being retired sometime over the
summer.

The reason number two seems more likely to me is that is the way that
the A+ "refresh" of 2003 was handled. The 2003 update was much smoother
than the previous change which was an unmitigated disaster. CompTIA
*really* learned a lesson from *that* exercise.

CompTIA really needs to start publishing a timeline for the introduction
of the new objectives and the retirement of the old exam/objectives as well.

Yes, I think they are retiring the current exam as of the end of this month.
The reason I believe this is I failed the test before Thanksgiving and was
eligible to retake it before January at half-price. So I'm taking that on
the 27th. Whew! What a stressful Christmas, huh? But I think I'm ready now

No, there has been no announcement to retire the old exam yet.

What you are referring to is the "half Price Retake" special that
CompTIA is running right now. This is for *all* of their exams, not just
Network+.

Good luck with the retake!!! Let us all know how you make out!!!!!
