| Hi,
I have two new servers both with standard gigabyte cards in. I have 2 x
3com 3300sm switches 10/100mb joined to each other with a matrix cable from
the top unit of the switch there is a fibre module connecting with fibre
optic to another pair of switches in another part of the building.
What is the best way to get gigabyte speed out of what I have?
What else do I need to buy? I assume that if I do across over between a
gigabyte switch and the 10/100 I'm still going to get a bottle neck.
Most of the traffic on the network is between the clients and the servers
rather than between servers, or between clients.

I would by another switch that had 8 100BaseT autosensing ports and two
Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports. Connect the 3300SM switches to this new
switch and use the two Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports to connect to the
Gigabit cards in the server. Use Cat6 cable between the server and
switch Gigabit Ethernet ports. This will provide a high speed backbone
and provide for some network expansion.
