Hello:

I have beenntaking computer courses, and we are talking about the OSI
model. I am having alittle trouble with the 802 standards. Can anyone
direct me a wbsite that will help me with this as well as the rest of the
OSI model.

TIA

The IEEE standards such at 802.x are not part of the OSI model. OSI's reference model consists only of:

APPLICATION
PRESENTATION
SESSION
TRANSPORT
NETWORK
DATA LINK
PHYSICAL

Here is some basic information

Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away!!!!!

From bottom to top:

Physical (Please)
Data Link (Do)
Network (Not)
Transport (Throw)
Session (Sausage)
Presentation (Pizza)
Application (Away)

All you need to know about 802 standards (doesn't hurt to study more of
them)

802.3 is synonymous with Ethernet
802.5 is synonymous with Token Ring
802.11a,b,g is synonymous with Wireless

Hope this helps

Here is a good site with an online presentation about the OSI model
and also other topics for FREE!!
http://www.learntcpip.com/OSIModel/default.htm

Another good tutorial..
http://www.pcsupportadvisor.com/OSI...model_page1.htm

Another site but less friendly...
http://www.inetdaemon.com/tutorials/theory/osi/

Don't let this crap intiimidate you. TRY to really understand what
eack layer does in the REAL world and that should help a bit.
The whole point of the OSI is that stuff goes in one end and then goes
thru a process before coming out the other end.... It DOES have a
function but the truth is that most of us never have used it in our
daily work. YES, some folks (router/switch/network
troubleshooter/developers) do use it, I just said MOST tech & admin
types don't. Still they will test you on it so plough thru it....

Hope it helps.

..
Just my .02 cents.

Thank ya' very much.
