| I'm about to buy some prep book to get my network+ cert (and A+ as
well). I was talking to someone whom works in an IT dep and she was
telling me that they were going to be updating the tests very soon
because it was considered too easy. I'm curious as to if anyone know
if and when new tests will take effect. I don't want to buy these
books only to have the tests change before I can take them. As I
understand it these are the current exams:
N10-002 (Network+), 220-221 & 220-222 (A+)
Thanks for any information

| Yes, the A+ update has already taken place so study materials covering the current objectives will be valid for quite a while. They did also raise the bar on the A+ as far as minimum score to pass. Also, the Network+ has not changed and I don't believe that it is scheduled to for a while. | |

The A+ Exams were just upgraded and the NEW exam codes are 220-301 and
220-302.
The Network+ exam code is still n10-002.
Currently, CompTIA has yet to announce an update for Net+. YET.
However, the current N10-002 material is about 2 years old, so it's
about DUE for an update.
My sources tell me that the CompTIA person responsible for the A+
program is also responsible for Network+. Since the A+ update is now
history, they can finally turn their attention to Network+.
I would expect an announcement this quarter or *early* second quarter
2004 of updated requirements with final implementation late in the year
(look for it to be very much like what happened with A+).
My gut tells me that, like A+, this will be a "freshening up" of the
material, not a complete rewrite. Add the newest technologies, drop the
oldest, add some wireless and security stuuff, things like that.
I feel you have *plenty* of time to start studying for Network+ and take
and pass the current N10-002 exam. My guess is at least 6-10 months.
Another reason for the time lag is to give the textbook authors time to
get their manuscripts ready for publication. Talk to anyone in the
publishing industry and they'll tell you that anything under 6 months is
*murder*.
These are just my observations. I have no "inside" information from
CompTIA or anything like that. I'm just looking at past performance as a
possible predictor of future events. No flames please. 8-)
