Help Setup a Home network

| I have a cable modem with cable internet connected to a network hub to share
internet connnection between two computers. The two window xp computers
connnected to the hub to share internet. I want to set up a network to
share file and folder though that hub, but window xp says this kind of
network configuration is not recommended. XP gives a warning saying this
wizard enable internet connection firewall(ICF) on this computer. ICF will
protect this computer from internet security threats, but it might also
prevent this computer from sharing file with other computers on your
network. I went ahead and accept this setting, but the network won't work.
I can't see anything. What is other ways I can set up a home network
through a hub at the same time able to share internet access, or I can only
have only one way?
Thank You.

connect computer B to the hub
in computer B Set IP to DHCP
ISP ----- [nic #1 - A - nic #2 ] ------ hub ----- [nic #3 - B]

You meant the router hub or just the regular hub?

It is best not to share files on your peer to peer server, but it is OK
to share files on the other clients. Try uninstalling ICS and installing
other Internet sharing programs like Winproxy, Wingate or Sygate. You
will also need a firewall on the server. Are you using Win XP or XP
Home. XP Home has some network limitations.

| Unless your ISP issued you more that one public IP addresses, you are going to have
trouble sharing the internet connection between the two computers. Get yourself a
cable/dsl nat router. They go for as little as $19 after rebates at Best Buy, etc.
D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, etc. They come with easy to use instructions and have built
in dhcp server. Then make your XP computers dhcp clients if they are not already
[this will be explained in the documentation with the router] and disable the ICF
firewall on each computer and you will be in business. You can read the
documentation for these devices at the manufactures websites before you buy one if
you wan to see what is involved. At today's prices, you may wan to buy a wireless
router that will still work fine in your situation, but have the capability to go
wireless if you think you may want to do that someday. If you do that, just be sure
the wireless access is disabled until you need it, as your data from the wired
network could be vulnerable to wireless eavesdropping in a default setup.--- Steve
