Passed Today-Have Important News

| First of all, thanks to all of you who have taken the time to answer my
occasional questions. I passed with a 786. What a load off my mind. Now
onto the Microsoft stuff.
Folks, this is not meant to freak anyone out but I think those of you
getting ready to test out on N+ should know the the Mike Myers (McGraw-Hill)
and David Groth (Sybex) Network Plus books are missing a bit of information.
For the test also make sure that you know the ins and outs of NAS and SAN.
Be sure you with diagnosing/troubleshooting network problems. There is a
HEAVY emphasis on troubleshooting, at least that is what I found on my exam.

| I'm studying for the Network+ now, and thank you for the info on the
overlooked subjects. I'm getting pretty peaved myself with sample test
questions that are in direct conflict with the books. It almost looks like
I'll need to have several sources to sort out the improper english grammer,
wrongly used terminology, and downright wrong answers to questions, as well
as overlooking several CompTIA objectives. It amazes me that some of these
sources are able to acquire the "CompTIA Quality-Authorized Curriculum"
without covering all the material. I'm seeing a definite lack of proper
editting of teaching materials, and a sore lack of technical writing skills
on behalf of most of the common learning sources.
The situation is even further frustrated by the fact that with the cost of
$200.00 for the test, $200.00 for books, $500.00 for videos, and $100.00 for
test emulation software, that in order to pass, one has to hunt down the
actual information outside of the learning materials.

| You should get upgrading and repairing networks by terry o'reilly. It
doesn't specifically prepare you for the test but it gives you so much
knowledge the test questions will be simple to answer. Mike meyer's book is
a pretty good source too. I read it but I don't think that if you truly
want to master the subject that you can rely on that book alone. Mike's
book is a bit of an easier read too.

| Truth of the matter is that the time you spend hunting information to confirm answers in a prep test is not wasted info. It's part of the learning process. This said, I agree that QA should be better taken care of... | |

| All you really need to pass Network+ is one book and a computer to do some testing if you are unclear of some topics. Network+ is very very basic. It is knowledge that a Help Desk support person should have. A network administrator needs much more in-depth knowledge than what Network+ covers. | |

To make it as inComptia Authorised Curriculum all you need to do is front up
with the bucks - oh yeah and have 50% coverage of the objectives and two
forms of learning (text study and practice exams). Total crap & I surely
hope one day that someone in the states makes an issue out of this -
completely unacceptable for a so-called professional examination. Not as
bad as having test questions that are subjective or completely wrong, but
that is another subject ... lol

The Novell Press books by David Clarke(??)
dry humor but the material was all there back
when I was studying for it - never made it
beyond CNA though because my comapny
announced switching to MS for everything.
Is Netware still widely used where you are?

| I just passed with a 780 and he is right.. I got three net+ books
sybex,xamcram,mike myers) and there is a bit of stuff on the test that is not
in the books

| I do a lot of work with the Michigan Department of
Corrections. They run everything on Netware. Many of
the schools that I service still depend on it a lot
too. Mainly, I just want to learn more about it for my
own gratification.

| Wow, I'm up studing for the Net+ exam and felt like I should just vist this board, and it turns out I bought the Mike Meyers book. And it lacked the RAS, And SAN. Good thing I review with a bank of test questions to help cover myself. Guys thanks for the info.
PS The Mike book was still nice and easy to read.
