I am having trouble with my network. I am in desperate need of help. I have
attached a detailed flowchart of my network. Could someone please help me
stop the collisions.

The way I have it setup is...

The signal for the internet comes in to my cable modem. I have an ethernet
wire that then takes our 2 IP address into a hub. From that hub I have 2
other ethernet wires. 1 goes to straight to the back of my PC. The other
goes to a wireless router. Then I have 4 other PCs connected to the wireless
router. (3 wireless, 1 hardwired)

My problem is...

Every so often there is a huge collision between my computer and the cable.
The lights on the hub on both the cable and my PC blink very fast and the
collision light is orange and the utilization meter is maxed. This causes a
loss of connection to the internet. On the 2Wire wireless router, the power
and local network lights stay lit but the broadband light blinks or turns
orange.

But... if I unplug my cable from the hub and restart my computer, I can plug
my cable back in the hub and when my computer boots back up, all is fine...
for awhile. I notice the collision happens more often when my computer
appears idle. It SEEMS as long as I am using my computer the collsion doesnt
happen.

PLEASE help!! Advance thankyous to all that help me figure this mind
boggling thing out.

PS. I have to keep my computer out of the loop of the wireless router
because I cant be behind th firewall on it and run my servers.

change the hub to a switch.

Your using a hub as a backbone essentially, just get rid of it or replace it
with a switch if you don't have enought plugs in the router.

perhaps your NIC is marginal, new nic is under $20.

kinda fun thing to do is look for sniffing software to see what is
happening when the collisions begin. Think of this as an opportunity
to learn.
