I am looking to put together a set of software tools that I can use to
evaluate network security? any suggestions for good security
evaluation software. My scenario assumption is that I have a valid
account to log into the network with and run the tools / scripts to do
the evaluation.

Nmap would be the number one tool but the difference between a security
professional and hacker is permission. Having a valid login is not
permission!
