| Anybody know/ heard anything about specality computers and system inc.? They
subcontract out warranty work within a 50mile radius of your location. They
also pay a FLAT rate of $30- 45 per call, no mileage, expenses, etc.
They also require you to have a cell phone, pager, car, liability
insurance, and a federal tax number. They recognize vendor certs like: A+,
and NET+ (it says nothing about requiring these). They do have a toll-free
phone no. that you can call. I dunno, kinda sounds fishy to me. Any
opinions?
Thanx.

| A *flat* rate of $30-$45 per call? This is all you get paid for regardless
of how many hours you work? Or was that a per-hour pay rate? Do you get a
1-hour minimum or some base charge for each call? Do they pay for the cell
phone and service (provided it is a number unique to just that job), or is
it included as part of your "expenses" that you can add to your fees? You
need a pager in addition to a cell phone? If you are an employee, you
shouldn't have to pay for liability insurance since the liability is between
the customer and that company (even if you are a subcontractor), but if
instead you are hiring yourself as a consultant then you need to provide all
your own coverages, like liability, medical, etc. Are you on-call or do you
get to schedule your itinerary?
Are they corporated or incorporated? In which state? Have you checked with
the BBB regarding them? Where did you find any information regarding this
company, its ownership, its history, and whatnot so you know who you're
working for? Is this SCS Inc. (www.scsinet.com) or someone else? How many
warranty contracts do they actually have within your 50-mile radius so you
know there will actually be some work there, and how many other
subcontractors do they have covering that same area or overlapping it? Do
they provide a list of their warranty contract customers so you can verify
they have coverage in your area so you know who you might be working for?

| The description of work is very simple, the majority of the work will
be warranty work from our customers, which are national customers. This
break/fix type of work pays on a scale of $30.00 to $45.00 per call
(per visit) depending on your certification and what our customer is
paying us. These rates are flat and not hourly, also we are unable to pay
any monies for mileage, with some exceptions. The warranty business is
our core business, however, we also do installs, networking and special
projects, all of which pay more than the onsite computer repair. With
the mentioned rates in mind I will work with you to determine an area
of coverage at the county level. Generally what we do is go out from
your home zip code about 40 - 50 miles and look to assign the counties
within that radius to you for the rates previously described. I will
work with you on developing the most appropriate area of coverage once we
have gone through the stages of signing you up. We pay all of our
vendors monthly and send checks out for all invoiced calls by the 15th of
every month. Once you are signed up with us you will be walked through
the invoicing process by your administrator, as this is done on our
main website. All parts are supplied and there are no shipping fees to
you to return the parts. The parts are either shipped to the end user or
to you, depending on which client sends the work order.
That is the bulk of the e-mail that was sent to me. The more I think about
it, the less it appeals to me. Even though I need the experience, I don't
think this is how to get it.
