Author Home network w/ a dual-boot PC

I have a slight problem and was hoping someone on this board would know the
answer.

Here's the situation: I have a small home network with 2 PCs sharing a
cable Internet connection through a Linksys router. PC1 is running XP Pro
and the other was running 98SE. I had a connection between the two as well
as an Internet connection on both PCs.

I decided to set up the 98SE PC to dual-boot with Windows 2000. Configuring
the PC for the dual boot went well... no problems. UNTIL, I have an
Internet connection in both 98 and W2K, but now neither one can be found by
the XP system and neither OS on the dual-boot system sees the XP system
either. I've checked the configuration in both OSs and everything seems
fine. I can ping the localhost just fine, so I know the TCP/IP stack is
configured correctly. I made sure I enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP. But now
I'm lost. What could be the problem? I know that both OSs on the dual-boot
have to share the same workgroup name as the XP machine and they do. Should
the dual-boot machine have a different PC name for each OS or should they
share the same name? I understand having troubles with the W2K, but I don't
know why I lost my connection through 98SE. Any help, please?

I'm not sure if I have the answer or not but my situation is pretty close to
yours. I have a duel boot system as a server, XP/ME which I have two clients
that are wireless a laptop and a ME desktop that get there resources from,
the (internet) and what not. The key is make sure that what ever you have as
a server make it a Win2k or XP system, especially if it will be your
internet gateway, because the whole system is designed that way. ME and 98SE
are a joke as far as any kind of server responsibility, just make sure you
have them set for printer and file sharing as clients and you should not
have any problems. Another thing to look at is what file format are you
using on the XP/Win2k, a Fat32 will not see a NTFS. Good luck and let me
know what you found, Chris also A+ Network+ enrolled
