Net+ compared to MS

| I am already an MCSA and am wondering how the comptia tests compare to
Microsofts? Anyone have any ideas?

| no comparison, the MS tests are far harder than CompTIAs.

| I think it depends on your experience and how well you know the subject. How
difficult an exam is, is relative to your knowledge. I recently took the
Network+ and it was harder than I expected. I scored 846 but I really
studied hard to get that. I'm currently working on Windows 2000(70-210) and
this is much easier studying for me because I've got a lot more experience
with Windows 2000. Although I haven't taken the 70-210 exam yet, I'll be
surprised if it's harder(to me) than Net+ was.

CompTIA looks at general knowledge while Microsoft focuses on specific
products and technologies. I found the CompTIA exams to be easier,
but then again I'm more of a generalist. Also, the A+ and Network+
exams are probably the easiest of the bunch.
If you are already an MCSA, I wouldn't bother with A+ and Network+,
but you might consider the Linux+ or Security+ exams to give you some
experience outside of the Microsoft realm.
Take a look here for some more info on those two certs:

Good luck!

| I received my A+ a few months ago and am now studying for my N+. I will be
taking the N+ in a couple of weeks. As soon as I have completed that, I plan
on trying for my MCSA. I don't know if you are aware of it, but the MCSA
track recognizes a combination of A+ & N+ or A+ & Server+ as a substitution
for it's elective exam. I think another guy who replied to this message
already recommended not getting the A+ or N+ and I agree. It would almost be
redundant since a lot of people (including me) are using those two tests as
an elective for a cert. you already own! If you want CompTIA, go for Linux+
or Security+!

| I guess I don't understand what you are saying. If you are going for the
MCSA and are using the A+ and Network+ as an elective for that cert, then
you are not using them for a cert you already own. You are using them to
obtain another certification along with 3 other tests. If you didn't have
them then you would have to take a fourth test. That fourth test wouldn't
certify your knowledge of networking in general or pc repair in general
either.

| go for something more vendor specific if you want hardware certs. hp, ibm, symantec and cisco do them. | |

| Amen, go with Cisco after you get your neutral certs if you want to get into Network Engineering.
