I need alittle help on a problem that I have. My goal is to duel boot
win2000 and 98 from the menu. I have one hard drive with one partition
and win2000 on it with NTFS. I took another hard drive with one
partition and win98 on it with FAT32. I made the drive with win98 the
master and the other the slave. I was thinking I could boot into 98,
edit msdos.sys (add bootmenu=1) and get the boot menu. All I get when
I do this is the win98 start up menu (boot normal, safe mode, etc.).
I 'm thinking it won't allow me to choose which O.S to boot because
98 won't see a NTFS partition. My question is, is there any way I can
duel boot these two through a menu.(I know I can change the O.S by
changing the boot order in the BIOS but I want the boot menu). My
other question is, is there a third party utility that can allow me to
do this? Thanks. Sorry if its confussing.

I believe that in order to dual boot, all drives must be FAT or FAT32. Fat32 will not recognize
NTFS.

Here is more from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 243896

For Windows 98 to coexist with Windows NT 4.0 on a large NTFS partition, a small FAT active
partition must exist at the beginning of the drive. Currently, FAT16 using the 32-KB cluster size is
the only common file system that both operating systems can address from Power On Self-Test (POST).
Therefore, making a FAT drive C partition that is 2 GB in size or less, ensures the proper cluster
size is used.

If the active partition is NTFS or large FAT16 using the 64-KB cluster size, Windows 98 does not
boot because these file systems are not accessible to the boot code that Windows 98 uses. Likewise,
if the active partition is FAT32, Windows NT does not boot.

err so you have 2 hdd's? ok then
isntall win98 on the c drive
then isntall win2k on the d drive
thats it

(win2k will install it's boot manager on the c drive, and it'll auto detect
win98 and give you a choice at boot for it)

You will need to reinstall 2k, from 98. When it gives you a choice, enter
new installatin, and point it towards d:

Having NTFS will not effect dual boot, except that you won't see the d drive
when you are in 98. It just won's be there.

Hope that helps

Ok, so theres no way to duel boot them without re-installing.

Get Partition Magic and use BootMagic, you won't have to reload.
