| I am planning on getting A+ and network+ certified but was wondering
if it mattered which one I took first. After looking over the
material in both courses it seems that the network+ would be quicker
to learn and take first. I have previous experience in programming
VB and work as a DBA and crystal reports 8.5. Any one have any
thoughts on this?

| I would take A+ first. As the A+ exam has some basic networking stuff on it.

| Hi Jim
A+ is sort of a "pre-requisite" for Network+.
"The Network+ certification covering the 2002 objectives, certifies that the
successful candidates knows the layers of the OSI model, can describe the
features and functions of network components and has the skills needed to
install, configure, and troubleshoot basic networking hardware peripherals
and protocols. A typical candidate should have A+ certification or
equivalent knowledge, but A+ certification is not required. In addition to
A+ certification level knowledge, candidates are encouraged to have at least
9 months of experience in network support or administration."

In order to be A+ certified you need to pass 2 exams (hardware and software)
which will take some time.
"For A+ Certification, the examinee must pass both this examination and the
A+ Operating System Technologies examination. The Core Hardware examination
measures essential competencies for an entry-level IT professional or PC
service technician with the equivalent knowledge of at least 500 hours of
hands-on experience in the lab or field."

A+'s difficulty is evaluated to 4.5 on 10 on a scale of by cramsession

Network+'s difficulty is evaluated to 5.5 on a scale of 10 by cramsession

It would be quicker to study Network+ but the difficulty is higher.
I would be easier to study A+ but it will take more time.
It's up to you.

You can get a higher paying entry level job supporting networks.
Computer Repair doesn't pay that much unless you own your won business.
Network+ will give the background you need to get Cisco CCNA certified.

| Typically A+ first then Net+. But no, it really doesn't matter which you do
first. If you feel more confident with Net+ first, go for it.
(Your experience won't help you with either)

You'll note he was planning on getting both, and did not ask for opinions on
comparative worth.

| Thanks to all for your advice! After rethinking it I decided to take
the A+ hardware test first then the software then the network +. I
appreciate all your input.
