Hey Rick,
If you have two user accounts on the XP pc maybe you should try this:
On the XP pc click start-run, type "control userpasswords2" and hit enter.
Enable autologon by selecting the user account you want, clearing the "users
must enter a username and password to use this computer" check box and
clicking OK. You will be prompted to provide a password for the account. You
can leave it blank and click ok. Your XP pc will automatically log on to the
account you selected every time it boots. I hope this helps when you try to
access the share through Win98 network neighborhood...
