I have a CCNA, do you guys think it's worth getting Network+ as well?
Thanks

Cisco seems to think so. I'm currently enrolled in the Cisco NetAcad CCNA
program. One of the stated goals of the program is to prepare students to
take the CCNA certification exam(s) and the Network+. The rationale is
that Network+ is a vendor neutral certification.

Do it only if you don't mind spending the $207.
With your CCNA knowledge you can sit for Net+ tomorrow and pass it.
You will find it extremely easy if you have some network troubleshooting
experience (know why and how to use ping, tracert, netstat, nbstat,
ipconfig, etc.)
Do you need it? No.
But it will add a line to your resume.

It will probalby be easy for you to pass it if you have a CCNA. Network+
is good cert to have before your try to pass the CCNA test.

I would think the CCNA would be much more difficult than the Network+ exam.

Or am I wrong? For those who have taken it - what was it like? How long did
it take? Was it hard? The Network+ exam is on par with what Microsoft exams?

I have taken certificate courses in NT4 and Windows 2000 Administration, and
have about 2 years field experience. I'm also taking a 5 day Network+
course. Based on this - Will the exam be easy? Hard?

hmm...
I looked through the exam prep books for Network+ and about 70-80% of it is
overlapping with the CCNA..
what i found different was :
CCNA does not cover anything on Novell/Windows networking ( obviously )..
Nothing on authentication stuff like Kerberos etc... again because it's all
CISCO-specific...
CCNA teaches you the CISCO IOS commands to be able to configure basic stuff
on routers...

The common things were:
OSI layers
IP addressing / subnetting
Network topologies / cabling
WAN protocols

so i'm still not sure if i should go for the Network+ or just get a study
guide and read the stuff that wasn't on the CCNA...

If you want to do it buy the ExamCram2 Network+ study guide(under $20)
It has a lot of practice questions and you can read it in just a few days.
You'll be able to skip some chapters also.

At my company - we are now required to fly the certification path -
So just to let you know what to expect - I have my CCNP - MCSE and MCNE -
I sat the Comptia exams and in about 2 weeks passed the Project+, A+,
Server+ and Network+. I found the easiest thing to do was to look for the
course content and then make out the tables. You know ports etc.. and sit
the exam. It is basically walking around knowledge and the pass mark is
so low that anyone who is in the business should be able to pass with
ease. I kow of several people whao have taken and passed several in one
sitting.

cheers

Dan,

What do you mean by "I found the easiest thing to do was to look for the
course content and then make out the tables."

Tables???

Hi again,

Here is what I do - Study your course material - At some point, you will
find that you need to memorize some kind of content or some content will
need to be organized into logical groupings for notes. At my skill level,
this means that I am going to know networking but will need to organize a
list of odd ports. Or make a list of 802.x protocols or even with the OSI
layer - I am going to need to know 'stock' answers. I write down the
tables - lists - onto separate sheets of paper - Then as I go through q&a
I add to these lists, odd notes - ie: On the transport layer - TCP, UDP
connectionless etc. 802.1 span - you get the idea.

On the night previous to the test, go over the lists to be certain that I
understand everything. On the last hour before the test, go over the
tables again. Memorize what you can - When you go into the exam - before
starting the test - regurgitate whatever you can remember onto your note
tablet- this saves time within the test and helps to organize your
thoughts. As a bonus, some test questions will give you answers. You add
that to the now transposed tables. This works especially well with TCP/IP
subnetting etc...

does your employer, or job ads, require a Network+?

Not unless you just want to add to your list of credentials. Network
professionals know that the CCNA is a "prove your worth" type of exam
and not just something you hammer out in a couple of weeks. I went
the other direction and obtained the Net+ before moving on to the CCNA
and found it helpful during my CCNA process. You'll cover additional
info with the Net+ such as Novell Netware and Windows Server, but
mostly the fundamental are the same. Again, the choice....and the
money.....are yours. Good luck.
