You CANNOT connect 2 computers together with a normal USB cable. You
need a special cable with an electronic circuit known as a USB
laplink cable such as http://www.cablesnmor.com/usb-laplink.html

If you use a normal cable you have a very good chance of destroying
one or both computer mainboards.

The simplest way is two NIC cards and a CAT3 or CAT5 crossover cable.
You can also connect using a crossover cable betewwn the parallel ports
and the serial ports of two computers but the NIC cards and RJ45
crossover cable is probably the simplest and least expenisve way to go.
